Recording in Albuquerque

Albuquerque is New Mexico's largest city, and its music scene runs deep across every genre. GoatHead Audio brings professional mobile recording to ABQ from our base in Las Cruces, driving up with the full rig and setting up wherever you want to track.

Planning an ABQ Session Around the Drive

The drive from Las Cruces to Albuquerque is about 3.5 hours, so the smart move is to make the day count. Many ABQ clients book larger sessions to maximize a single trip: a band tracking two or three songs in a four-hour block, or an EP spread across a weekend with overnight availability. Shorter single sessions work too; we simply scope the quote to the actual project.

The best way to cut the per-session travel cost is to group bookings. If you know other Albuquerque musicians who want to record, putting sessions on the same trip lowers the travel for everyone, since we are already in town.

    Tracking Albuquerque's Range

ABQ's range is wide, from traditional New Mexican music to hardcore punk to experimental electronic, plus hip-hop crews, jazz players, folk, country, and rock. The mic plan follows the music. A hardcore band tracking loud and fast gets dynamics that handle the SPL and a setup built for energy over polish. Jazz and folk sessions slow down for condenser placement that captures detail and natural dynamics.

Hip-hop crews run vocal-first through the SM7B and a Cloudlifter, while electronic and experimental artists often need clean line-ins and careful gain staging alongside any acoustic elements. Whatever the genre, the goal is the same: clean capture and an engineer who listens to what the artist is after.

    Rooms and Setup in ABQ

Albuquerque has a strong DIY tradition, from established venues to house-show spaces, and those are exactly the rooms mobile recording is built for. We have the gear to make a rehearsal space, a garage, a living room, or a venue stage work, reading the room on arrival and adapting placement to its reflections and noise floor.

Setup runs 30 to 60 minutes depending on how many inputs you need. Every player gets headphone monitoring, so even a big live session feels natural to perform.

    Pricing, Deliverables, and Travel

Per-song pricing keeps the clock out of the session: Stems $50, Mixdown $100, Mix & Master Basic $150, Mix & Master Pro $300. The setup fee is $150 per four-hour session covering two to three songs.

Because ABQ is roughly 225 miles from our base, a $1/mile round-trip travel charge applies and is quoted clearly upfront, separate from the session rate. For multi-day or grouped sessions, the per-session travel cost drops because we are already there.

    Booking ABQ Sessions

Reach out with your project details and a few possible dates. We schedule Albuquerque sessions in advance to plan the drive; two weeks' notice is ideal, though we can sometimes work with less.

Tell us whether you are tracking a single, an EP, or a full album, and whether other local artists might want in on the same trip. We will build a schedule and a quote that makes the travel worthwhile.
